Luego de unas vacaciones doy inicio a un nuevo proyecto. Esta vez se trata del destructor clase Fletcher USS The Sullivans. El kit de Trumpeter es bueno en líneas generales, con buen encastre a excepción de algunas zonas donde debí recurrir al masillado. De las dos opciones que provee el modelo, he decidido construir la correspondiente a 1945. Además, para mejorarlo he adquirido el set de fotograbados de Tom's Modelworks, especialmente diseñado para este modelo. A continuación algunas fotos del kit.
After a hollidays I start a new project. This time it's about the Fletcher class destroyer USS The Sullivans. The Trumpeter's kit is well in general lines, with good fit except for some areas where I had to use putty. Of the two options that the model provides, I have decided to build the 1945 one. In addition, to improve it I have acquired the Tom's Modelworks photo-etched set, specially designed for this model. Here are some pictures of the kit.

Como dije anteriormente el kit posee buenos encastres, a excepción de algunas zonas donde debí hacer uso de masilla. Además, para emparejar ambas mitades del casco debí lijar y masillar bastante. El resto de las superestructuras no presentaron mayores inconvenientes, debiendo eliminar detalles del plástico que luego serán reemplazados por fotograbados.
As I said before the kit has good assembly, except for some areas where I had to use putty. In addition, to match both halves of the hull I had to sand and putty quite a lot. The rest of the superstructures didn't present major inconveniences, having to eliminate plastic details that later will be replaced by PE parts.
En las siguientes imágenes se ven los primeros fotograbados ya colocados en su lugar, principalmente las brandillas, escaleras verticales, detalles de las chimeneas y mástil y radar, entre otros. Además Construí en scratch las protecciones anti spray de las bandas más un poco de detallado en los botes.
In the following images you can see the first photoetched parts already placed, mainly the handrails, vertical ladders, the funnels' details, mast and radar, among others things. I also scratch built the deck side spray protections and a bit detailing on the boats.
Ahora el modelo ya se encuentra listo para comenzar con la pintura. Se terminaron de colocar todos los fotograbados y de realizar el detallado en las diversas partes. Además, se construyeron las armas antiaéreas y realicé en scratch las balsas salvavidas.
Now the model is ready to start with the paint. I finished the placement of all of the photoetched and made the detailing in several parts. In addition, I built the AA weapons and made the life rafts from scratch.

Painting
Antes de dar la pintura al modelo le apliqué una mano de imprimación utilizando el primer gris One Shot de AMMO. Luego la pintura fue realizada a base de esmaltes Humbrol y acrílicos de Tamiya principalmente. Por último, el efecto de desgastes fue hecho con óleos como acostumbro habitualmente.
Before painting the model I applied a coat of primer using the One Shot grey from AMMO. Then the painting was made with Humbrol enamels and Tamiya acrylics mainly. Finally, the weathering effects was done with oils as I usually do.
