Muchos años atrás realicé esta maqueta en scratch, partiendo de los planos para la construcción del modelo en papel, descargados de Digital Navy. Fue uno de mis primeros modelos y pueden verlo AQUI. Hoy ya no lo tengo en mi poder, así que decidí volver a armarlo, pero esta vez utilizando el kit de Mirage en escala 1:400 de la ORP Kaszub, denominación que se le dio a la torpedera alemana SMS V-108 una vez transferida a la Armada Polaca finalizada la Primera Guerra Mundial.
Many years ago I made this model from scratch, using the plans for the assembly of the paper model downloaded from Digital Navy. It was one of my first models and you can see it HERE. Today I no longer own it, so I decided to build it again, but this time using the ORP Kaszub 1:400 scale Mirage kit, a name given to the German SMS V-108 torpedo boat once transferred to the Polish Army after the First World War.

A continuación les presento algunas fotos del contenido del kit y los primeros pasos del ensamblado. A simple vista parece un kit correcto en cuanto a las formas y calidad del detalle. En algunos sectores debí simular los encastres con putty, pero nada más allá de la dificultad que puede presentar cualquier modelo. En primer lugar construí el casco y las cubiertas para luego dar paso al ensamblado y detallado del puente, agregando barandillas de fotograbados y ahuecando las aberturas y detallándolas también con fotograbos. Asimismo, construí las chimeneas y la toma de aire de ventilación. A su vez, comencé con la construcción de la base, en la que representaré al buque navengando con un oleaje intenso.
Here are some photos of the kit and the first steps of its assembly. At first glance it seems like a correct kit in terms of shapes and quality of detail. In some places I had to simulate the joints with putty, but nothing beyond the difficulty that any model can present. I first built the hull and decks and then started the assembly and detailing of the bridge, adding PE railings and hollowing out the openings and detailing them with PE as well. I also built the funnels and the ventilation air intake. In turn, I started with the construction of the base, in which I will represent the ship sailing with intense waves.

Lo que sigue son imágenes de los distintos trabajos de detallado en el modelo. En primer lugar, fueron construídos nuevos tubos lanzatorpedos dado que el kit aporta este armamento de acuerdo a la versión de post-guerra en la armada polaca, y que difiere de la versión original que portaba la V-108, con dos tubos a proa y el restante a mitad de la torpedera. Asimismo, reemplacé los mástiles de plástico por otros de metal, también de construcción propia. Por otro lado, trabajé en varias piezas, como las chimeneas, a las que les agregué las escaleras y el detallado de su parte superior. De esta forma el modelo ya está listo para recibir la pintura. Por último, avancé sobre la base, dándole el color al mar.
What follows are images of the various details added to the model. First of all, new torpedo tubes were built because the kit provides this armament according to the post-war version in the Polish Navy, which differs from the original version that carried the V-108, with two forward tubes and the another one at amidships. Also, I replaced the plastic masts with metal ones, in scratch. On the other hand, I worked on various pieces, such as the funnels, to which I added the stairs and the detail on the caps. In this way the model is ready to receive the paint. Finally, I advanced on the base, giving the color to the sea.

Una vez terminada la construcción y detallado del modelo apliqué una capa de imprimación, utilizando One Shot gris de AMMO. Luego, el modelo fue pintado con colores de El Ogro, pinturas poliuretánicas para modelismo que resultaron de muy buena calidad, logrando un acabado excelente. Aplicada la mano de pintura, comencé con los desgastes utilizando óleos tal como siempre hago, previo haber dado unas capas de barniz brillante para no estropear la pintura del modelo. Una vez colocado sobre su base trabajé el oleaje tratando de dar un efecto de mar gruesa.
Once the assembly and detailing of the model was finished I applied a primer coat, using One Shot gray from AMMO. Then, the model was painted with colors from El Ogro, polyurethane paints for modeling that were of very good quality, achieving an excellent finish. With the painting finished, I started with the weathering using oil paints as I always do, after applying a few coats of glossy varnish so as not to spoil the model's paint. Placed the ship on its base, I worked the waves trying to give an effect of heavy seas.
