El acorazado Rodney, al igual que su gemelo el Nelson, es un buque que siempre me ha llamado la atención; sus curiosas formas y las tres torres a proa le dan un aspecto sumamente singular. El kit de Tamiya ofrece una calidad excelente para su época y, para complementarlo, adquirí el set de fotograbados de White Ensign Models, el cual es muy completo y está diseñado específicamente para esta maqueta.
Aunque la versión que ofrece Tamiya es la original del acorazado, opté por representarlo con la configuración de mayo de 1941, durante la caza del Bismarck. Para lograrlo, tuve que realizar algunas modificaciones que les comparto paso a paso en este artículo.
En cuanto a la pintura, utilicé el color XF-66 de Tamiya por ser el más aproximado al gris del Almirantazgo 507B que portaba el buque. Para el gris azulado 507A de las superficies horizontales, mezclé varios tonos hasta lograr el color más fiel posible. Finalmente, apliqué los efectos de desgaste utilizando principalmente óleos. The battleship Rodney, just like her sister ship the Nelson, is a vessel that has always caught my eye; her unusual lines and the three forward turrets give her a highly unique look. The Tamiya kit offers excellent quality for its time, and to complement it, I acquired the photo-etched detail set from White Ensign Models, which is very comprehensive and designed specifically for this kit.
Although Tamiya's version represents the battleship in her original configuration, I chose to depict her as she appeared in May 1941, during the hunt for the Bismarck. To achieve this, I had to make a few modifications, which I share with you step-by-step in this article.
As for the paint job, I used Tamiya's XF-66, as it is the closest match to the Admiralty 507B grey carried by the ship. For the 507A blue-grey on the horizontal surfaces, I mixed several paints until I achieved the most accurate tone possible. Finally, I applied the weathering effects using mostly oils.
